2,000 Joined 2025 Ezekiel Guti Walkathon to Champion Health and Battle Substance Abuse

HARARE – Thousands of young people gathered at Grange Christian School in Harare yesterday for the second edition of the Ezekiel Guti Walkathon, an event promoting fitness and tackling drug abuse.

With nearly 2,000 attendees, the initiative continued to uphold the legacy of the late centenarian Dr. Ezekiel Guti, encouraging healthy lifestyles and strong moral values within the Christian community.

The walkathon encouraged a culture of fitness while addressing pressing youth issues such as drug abuse and cyberbullying.

Organizers emphasized that the event aligned with Dr. Guti’s teachings on well-being and longevity.

Beyond Harare, similar walkathons were held in multiple cities across Zimbabwe and internationally, as the event expanded its reach.

“As part of celebrating his legacy, we followed his example. The church has embraced this walkathon as a way to reflect Baba Guti’s lifestyle. It helps keep young people active while steering them away from drugs and negative influences,” said ZAOGA FIF Presiding Bishop Dr. Joseph Guti.

Participants were given the option to compete in 2.4km, 5km, and 10km routes, reflecting Dr. Ezekiel Guti’s personal dedication to long-distance walking as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Professor Euna Guti echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the importance of exercise in sustaining long and fulfilling lives.

Attendees expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, recognizing its role in encouraging fitness while reinforcing their Christian values.

“An idle body is the devil’s playground. Exercising keeps us away from harmful behaviors and strengthens our commitment to faith,” one participant shared.

ZBC reported that the annual Ezekiel Guti Walkathon blended spirituality with fitness, offering young participants a space for both physical and moral development.

The initiative, organizers said, aimed to inspire young people to prioritize their well-being while honoring the remarkable life and legacy of Dr. Ezekiel Guti, who was declared a national hero by President Emmerson Mnangagwa following his passing in May 2023.
