
A 19-year-old woman, Gursimran Kaur, was found dead in the walk-in oven of a Walmart in Canada, leading to widespread calls for justice and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
Kaur’s tragic case has gone viral on social media, with many expressing their outrage and sorrow.
Emergency response recordings revealed the alarming situation. One call reported, “A female is locked in an oven in the bakery, and it’s on; we’re unsure if staff can turn it off.”
Another official queried about shutting off the power, highlighting the urgency of the situation. Despite initial reports suggesting Kaur had escaped, it was later confirmed that she had been burned alive.
Kaur’s mother identified her body, and the family is currently grappling with the shock of the loss. The Maritime Sikh Society, which has been supporting the family, stated that both Kaur and her mother had worked at the store for two years.
Harjit Seyan, the society’s president, expressed the community’s grief, saying, “The community is deeply affected, and the family is in trauma.”
Kaur and her mother immigrated to Canada from the UK three years ago, while her father and brother remain in India.
In light of the tragedy, the society has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover burial expenses and facilitate the arrival of family members from India. The campaign has raised approximately $185,532 to date.
An inquiry into Kaur’s death has been initiated, as community members and online supporters continue to honor her memory and demand accountability.
