18 months behind bars for man who stole livestock worth $2,320.90

CHIPINGE – A 20-year-old man from Mabhoko village, Chipinge, received an 18-month prison sentence for nighttime theft of livestock including six cattle valued at $1,710 and 20 goats plus a pig valued$610.90
Tatenda Dhliwayo was arraigned before the Chipinge Magistrates Court facing two counts of stock theft charges.
The court proved that on October 10, 2024 at around 1800 hours, the complainant (63) penned her cattle at the kraal and then went home.
The court heard that the accused person came during the night, unpenned the kraal and stole six cattle before leaving unnoticed.
Later that same night, the accused returned and stole 20 goats and one pig escaping unnoticed.
The next day, the complainant woke up to discover that her livestock had been stolen. She joined forces with fellow villagers, tracked the spoor and successfully apprehended the accused near Munyanisa Business Centre with the stolen cattle, goats and pig.
The complainant reported the incident to the police, resulting in the accused’s arrest and the full recovery of the stolen livestock.
