14-Year-Old Girl Traumatized After Alleged Gang Rape by Minors

CAPETOWN, SOUTH AFRICA- A 14-year-old girl has not returned to school since she was allegedly gang-raped by four boys under the age of 12, who threatened her with a gun and recorded the assault, which has since gone viral. The traumatic incident has left the girl and her family devastated.

According to a family spokesperson, the girl has been deeply affected not only by the assault but also by the subsequent public exposure.

Classmates have reportedly taunted her, suggesting she “wanted it to happen to be famous.” This behavior has compounded her trauma, making her reluctant to attend school.

The incident occurred on October 11 when the girl was sitting in a park. She was approached by the boys, who allegedly forced her to an open field near Kapteinsklip train station.

One of the boys recorded the attack while the others held her down and took turns to rape her. The video, which features her face and mentions her school, has circulated widely, further traumatizing the victim.

The girl’s grandmother discovered the video nearly two weeks later and expressed her shock and heartbreak.

After initially seeking help at a police station, she was redirected to social workers before returning to the police for assistance. A family spokesperson later intervened to help file a formal report.

The family is calling for justice, emphasizing the need for the boys to be held accountable. “They shouldn’t just be let go with a warning,” the grandmother stated, highlighting concerns for other potential victims.

Currently, the victim is receiving her schoolwork at home, as she feels unsafe returning to classes. The Mitchell’s Plain police have opened a sexual offenses inquiry, which is being investigated by the Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offenses Unit.

No arrests have been made so far. Authorities are committed to ensuring the victim receives the necessary support during this difficult time.
