14-Year-Old Dies After Secret Breast and Butt Lift Surgery

A 14-year-old girl named Paloma Nicole Arellano Escobedo died after undergoing breast surgery and a butt lift without her father’s knowledge. The incident is under investigation, and her mother’s boyfriend, a plastic surgeon, is being looked at for possible negligent homicide.

Paloma passed away on Saturday in a hospital in Durango, Mexico, after suffering from brain swelling and heart problems following surgery a week earlier. Her father, Carlos Arellano, was told she died from complications related to Covid-19. He only learned about the plastic surgery when he went to say goodbye, New York Times reports.

At her funeral, family members mentioned that Paloma had larger breasts than before. When Carlos asked her mother about it, she denied knowing anything. He later examined his daughter’s body and confirmed she had breast implants, leading him to request an autopsy.

The surgeon, who is 45 years old and identified as Víctor “N,” has had his medical license suspended while authorities investigate. Carlos claims that both his ex-wife and her boyfriend are responsible for his daughter’s death.

In Mexico, there are no specific age restrictions for plastic surgery, but typically, minors need permission from both parents. The local attorney general stated they are also looking into whether the mother showed negligence by allowing her daughter to undergo risky surgery.

Carlos Arellano is now campaigning to raise awareness about the dangers of cosmetic surgery for minors. He organized a march with the slogan “girls don’t need implants,” emphasizing that girls should be able to grow up safely and without pressure to change their bodies.
