11-Year-Old Nigerian Author Earns Lifetime Scholarship After Viral Book Sales

NIGERIA – Chidera Ikeoha, a Primary 6 student in Enugu, has been awarded a lifetime scholarship by EduCare, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting education and literacy.
Ikeoha’s achievement was revealed in a post on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting his determination to sell his book at motor parks in Enugu. The post, which included a photo of the book’s cover, quickly gained traction.
The initial post introducing Ikeoha read: “Meet Nigeria’s youngest author, Chidera Ikeoha, who wrote a book in Primary 6 and went from park to park selling it in Enugu.”
As part of the scholarship, EduCare’s lifetime scholarship will cover Ikeoha’s educational expenses and publish his book on Amazon.
In response to the announcement, social media erupted in celebration.
“Youngest author from Nigeria? I guess the pen really is mightier than the playground!” tweeted @TraderZeus.
@TheShePatriot expressed admiration for Ikeoha’s hustle, saying, “That’s the difference between me and this kid—he really out here hustling. Mad respect!”
Meanwhile, on social media, some users questioned Ikeoha’s status as Nigeria’s youngest author. @kothwayyy tweeted, “Is he really the youngest? I’ve been writing novels since basic school, but I didn’t have the money to publish.”
Despite this controversy, Ikeoha’s achievement has been hailed as a testament to his determination and hard work. As @IKECHUKWUU4926 tweeted, “He will go very far. May God help him.”
