10 years for TelOne drop wire theft

HARARE – A 27-year-old Harare man has been jailed for an effective 10 years after being found guilty of stealing TelOne drop wire worth $400.

Courage Zimuto appeared before the Harare Magistrates Court charged with contravening the Postal and Telecommunications Act.

The State alleges that on September 7, 2024, the accused person entered a Meyrick Park, Harare residence and intentionally damaged TelOne property, cutting drop wires, two white insulators, and twenty pairs of copper cables.

The court heard that while committing the offense, the accused person was spotted by a passerby who apprehended and took him to the police, resulting in his arrest and the recovery of the stolen property.
